Biography: 1984 - Iris van Herpen was born in Wamel, The Netherlands
2006 - Graduates from the Artez Institute of Arts in Arhem
Began as an intern with Alexander McQueen
2007 - Launch of her eponymous brand
2011 - Iris van Herpen became a member of the Chambre Syndicale de
la Haute Couture
Philosophy: Iris van Herpen´s essence is to express the character and
emotions of a woman and extend the feminine body´s shape
She views fashion as an artistic expression adding value to the world -
women wearing art
Iris van Herpen has a modern view of haute couture, forcing fashion to
the contradiction between beauty and regeneration, combining fine
handwork techniques and futuristic digital technology
Details: Iris van Herpen´s designs are described as an alchemist approach to
fashion
IvH has a focus on the innovation of new techniques and materials
Uses old and forgotten techniques
Uses forms that change and complement the body
Mixes form, structure and materials in a new manner, realizing optimal
tension and movement - two essentials of her work
Involved in the creation of new materials, often with the collaboration
of artists and scientists
Uses materials like polyamide, metal-gauze, motor chains,
synthetic snake skin, leathers, acrylic and synthetic boat yarns,
UV urable polymer, silicone lace, Swarovski crystals,
acrylic transparent sheets, ecco-leather among others
IvH introduced the ‘Mammoth Stereo lithography’ technique - a 3D
printing process, built slice by slice in a vessel polymer
Iris van Herpen is the leading fashion designer in the use of 3D printing
3D printed dresses are the result of the collaborations with Neri and
Karen Oxman and Julia Koerner with Materialise
